Managing projects
Creating a new project
Projects are the top-level container for data in Flow. They are used to group related samples and other data which together contribute to a single overall research question. They may be associated with a particular published paper, and you can decide who to share it with.
You can create a new project by clicking "New project" in the sidebar, under "Actions". Initially you need to decide if the project will be public - which means anyone, regardless of whether they have a Flow account will be able to see, or private - which means the project will only be accessible to the select users or groups you decide to share with.
Project naming and describing tips
Even if you are not making your project public now, begin with an idea of the paper you would eventually like to write about this work. Try and include details that will help other people to know what your work is about. For example a non-descriptive title such as "Mouse RNA-Seq" won't be helpful to you or others in the future.
Anticipate that the project will likely end up including a lot more data than the samples you begin with, so try not to name it too specifically, for example "TDP-43 iCLIP in HEK293 cells" might be better named as "Functional study of TDP-43 wildtype and mutant binding patterns". The second name anticipates that you might end up doing TDP-43 iCLIP in other cell types, or include other data types like RNA-Seq in the course of the project.
The description is like an abstract, but you may want to include more technical details or more conversational language. Include anything that might be useful to others or yourself in 5 years time when you've forgotten all about the project.
Changing permissions
To edit the permissons of your project click "Edit Project" next to the project title.
Here you can change from private to public or set more fine-grained permissions.
It is currently not possible to delete a project, this functionality will be added very soon.
